Social Value

We have maintained our commitment to improving service delivery, increasing productivity, adding social value into our communities and increasing customer satisfaction.

These are just some of our achievements:

  • President Fund

The President’s Fund is a fund of 30k that has been established for residents in need, to access help, sustain their tenancies and prevent homelessness. This has been an extremely successful initiative, providing help in cases of extreme hardship.

  • Food Poverty

We worked with our partners 'Can Cook' to provide Christmas food parcels to some of our most disadvantaged families across all six counties. The aim was to provide a full Christmas dinner to 60 families. Following on from the difference we made at Christmas we extended the offering with over 1,400 meals given out over a two-week period. The meals provided a different option for each of the 5 days. Each option was made with fresh ingredients that provided a healthy, nutritious meal.

Influencing the way we work

A small number of key resident volunteers have joined staff on recruitment panels for frontline staff vacancies, playing a full part in the interviews and subsequent discussions, ensuring the views of customers are heard when recruiting new, customer facing staff to ClwydAlyn.

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)

ClwydAlyn is committed to preventing ASB by tackling the root causes. There were 125 fewer incidents of ASB recorded during the year. Satisfaction with the way we deal with ASB has steadily increased year on year and is currently 77%. In response to ‘You Said We Did’, residents wanted a quicker response time to ASB incidents. During the last 12 months, only one ASB case has not met the timescales of this new process.

Improving quality of life

New resident groups have had an impact on improving the schemes environment. Llys Alyn in Rhos on Sea was able to use its constituted position to support a successful community awards application to carry out much needed environmental improvements at the scheme. At our Flint scheme, Llys Raddington, the new residents association is now working to provide a range of community activities for residents.

  • Community + Awards

ClwydAlyn launched its CommuntyPlus Awards in June 2018, as part of ClwydAlyn’s 40th birthday celebrations. They aim to make a positive difference within local communities where we operate. Residents were invited to nominate projects that would make a difference to their communities and there were six categories that they could apply for. A total of 11 projects received a share of 12k to complete their projects.

  • ODEL

Our award-winning ODEL team, in partnership with Flintshire County Council, worked with 140 clients during 2018/19. This involved providing a range of support services including advice, devising support plans and help with accessing grants, as well as supporting people back into work.  The team also encouraged residents to get involved in fun, sporting activities to promote active and healthy lifestyles, as well as volunteering.

  • Resfest

Resfest, the annual celebration event for Supported Living residents was held in August and was attended by 90 of our residents.

The theme ‘Mash Up’ was a celebration of the ten years of the festival and gave people who have previously experienced homelessness the opportunity to showcase their talents, mix with other residents and attend a number of themed workshops

  •  Supported Living review

A full-scale independent review of the Supported Living services has been commissioned to ensure we can assist local authorities to deliver their strategy to end youth homelessness by 2027.

  • Diverse Workforce

We are increasing the number of volunteer placements to enable those away from the jobs market to gain work experience with appropriate support.  Projects we have underway include:

  • Project Search: We are the lead employer partner working with Coleg Cambria, Flintshire Council and Hft a learning disability support organisation, supporting nine students with learning disabilities/Autism to gain 12-months work experience with businesses in Flintshire
  • In partnership with Crest Co-operative, we are piloting a project to support two residents to gain 12-month paid work experience in our services.  We are also supporting a second We Mind the Gap programme in Flintshire which supports young women into employment.  We are looking at how we can extend these programmes further next year.

Other initiatives include an Employability day in partnership with North Wales Training.  The aim is to raise staff awareness of the employment support available across North Wales. This is part of our objective to support Tenancy Sustainability.

  • Energy efficiency

We are committed to ‘together to beat poverty’ and recognise the importance of the combatting of fuel poverty and improving the energy efficiency of the homes we provide.

We are currently investing around £2 million per annum in the undertaking of energy measures for our homes to achieve Energy Fit Status. We measure our works on the ongoing reduction in energy costs achieved for our residents and the reduction of carbon impact of the home.

Our Energy Fit Homes works include an array of projects that positively impact the energy, including works delivered in house and working closely with third parties / business partners to achieve the best outcome. We deliver both physical works such as improvements but also recognise and deliver energy education as an important tool of our carbon reduction and aims to beat fuel poverty.

A £150,000 investment has improved 40 homes with new electric, high efficiency heating, while a £862,000 investment package has improved 368 homes with either new energy efficiency windows or doors, reducing heat loss by up to 15%. A total of 182 homes have received a new A rated, efficient gas boiler, thanks to £330,000 investment.
